What’s good, G1 Guide fam? We’re stomping in with Transformers Studio Series 86-06 Grimlock, the Leader Class legend from The Transformers: The Movie. At 8.5 inches tall, this Dinobot king brings the 1986 heat with a roar. Let’s see if he reigns supreme.
Overview: Justice in the Jaws
Grimlock’s big scene is the “Mockery of Justice,” storming the Quintesson courtroom with Wheelie to save Hot Rod and Kup. This 86-06 figure captures his raw power and dim-witted charm, with a transformation that’s pure G1 gold. It’s Grimlock, bigger and badder than ever.
Design and Sculpt: Dino Might
In robot mode, Grimlock’s a hybrid of his G1 toy and movie look. The silver, gold, and red deco shines, with a translucent grey chest panel and black accents adding depth. The head sculpt’s classic—visor eyes, mouthplate, and a fierce vibe. The T-Rex head and arms on his back are iconic, though the forearms look a bit hollow from the sides.
T-Rex mode is a chonky, grey beast with gold jaws and red plates. It’s movie-accurate with a modern twist, and the tail tucks neatly into the legs. Some gaps in the arms are noticeable, but it’s still a commanding presence.
Transformation: 24 Steps of Roar
Switching from robot to T-Rex takes 24 steps, and it’s a blast. The chest flips into the dino head, arms become legs, and legs fold into the body—classic G1 with updated polish. It’s not too tricky, making it perfect for fans who love a meaty transformation.
Accessories: Dino Essentials
Grimlock’s kit is lean but solid:
- Blaster: A chunky rifle that pegs to his back or hands.
- Wheelie: A non-transforming mini-figure with five articulation points, able to ride Grimlock in both modes.
- Backdrop: The “Mockery of Justice” scene, with a Quintesson vibe for display.
No sword (a bummer for some), but Wheelie’s a fun bonus.
Articulation: Stomping with Swagger
Grimlock’s got decent posability—head, shoulders, elbows, hips, knees, and ankle tilts. He can swing that blaster or chomp in T-Rex mode with solid range. The beast mode’s front legs (robot arms) are especially flexible, though the lack of ankle rockers limits some stances.
Why Leader Class?
At $49.99, Grimlock earns the Leader Class tag with his size, heft, and detail. He’s a step above Voyagers like Hot Rod, offering a bigger, chunkier build that fits his Dinobot status.
Pros and Cons
Pros:
- Iconic G1 design with modern flair.
- Fun, sturdy transformation.
- Wheelie adds play value.
- Imposing size and solid build.
Cons:
- No sword—missed opportunity.
- Hollow forearms in robot mode.
Final Verdict: A Dino King Worthy of the Crown
SS86-06 Grimlock is a G1 triumph. It’s not perfect—where’s that sword?—but it’s the best mainline Grimlock we’ve gotten, blending movie accuracy with playability. If you’re a Dinobot fan or just want a beefy 86 figure, this one’s a no-brainer.
Score: 9/10
(Docked a point for the sword snub, but it’s still a roaring success.)
Numerous members have had the opportunity to flip their apes for a profit. And this is potentially life-changing money we’re talking about. So those who hold are in it for the long-haul – with good reason. Apes, similar to Punks, have become a status symbol. With the added utility of being able to identify your fellow apes on social media, being an ape owner shows that you’re part of a 5,000+ member club. And aside from those within the crypto and NFT community, we’ve witnessed quite a few celebrities, including superstar Shawn Yue, Steph Curry, LaMelo Ball and more enter into the non-fungible space through the purchase of an ape.
I think it made me think about it more and really consider why I was choosing to add this to my NFT portfolio
It poses an interesting question for me on the avatar category – will people be willing to buy in, or does eating something change your “sniff” test on the believe-ability of the claims?
With the floor continuing to rise and interest reaching beyond the non-fungible community, we may see apes follow along the same path as Punks – that is, as a legacy project that helps define the NFT space.
It’s important to make the distinction between the two though, as one mapped out the rules (Punks) and one changed the game entirely (BAYC).
There’s also a little pouch to store the rollerballs, and a card with different inspirations as to how to blend them on your skin – but it’s foolproof. You can’t make a mess if you mix them all up.
Badger Beard Balm is perfect for the bearded gents in your life (is this everyone? beards are so trending). As Punks continued to moon throughout the first half of the year, and Punk derivative projects started to peter out, BAYC filled a demand for originality and substance within the collectible and art sections of the NFT market.
If you’re looking to get into the club, there is not time to waste!
Further, Punks are surely the gold standard for NFT projects, but what they lack in community, they make up for through ETH value far too high for most collectors to obtain even at floor prices. BAYC undoubtedly set a precedent for community based projects – and we’ve seen countless use its success as a template to follow in its footsteps.
